st. paul’s public library

Client: Charleston County Public Library

Location: Hollywood, SC

Size: 15,000 SF

  • Nestled among towering pines and the shade of 50-year-old oak trees, the St. Paul’s Charleston County Public Library stands as a picturesque landmark in the Town of Hollywood. This new 15,000 SF library was designed to foster an indoor-outdoor relationship that encourages learning, reading, and research. The library’s thoughtful layout includes special adjacencies, porches, and ample daylighting, offering visitors the option to enjoy the library’s resources within a park-like setting. The design features a central spine that organizes the interior spaces, allowing natural light to flood the building. Conference rooms, offices, staff work areas, and the adult and children’s areas all take advantage of the beautiful vistas and event lawn, which can also serve as an outdoor classroom. The integration of Automated Materials Handling (AMH) technology streamlines the library experience, offering users a seamless and efficient process. In addition to the library, the Town of Hollywood now boasts a new civic center, comprising the Hollywood Town Hall and the St. Paul’s Public Library, connected by a cohesive green space. This shared area facilitates pedestrian and vehicular movement while providing room for future growth and development, solidifying the library as a central hub for both the community and the town's ongoing development.
