Situated on a tidal marsh within a flood zone, this project presented unique challenges, particularly the need to elevate the building by 8 feet. The client’s vision was to avoid a typical “beach house” on stilts, opting instead for a design that would catch the eye as you drove over the marsh. The resulting design features a series of cantilevered boxes that extend toward the marsh, piercing through a tabby stucco wall that not only highlights the entry but also allows for the creation of a terraced hill at the front. This hill visually grounds the building and offers a more inviting, casual atmosphere as you approach. Upon entering the lobby, views are immediately directed towards the marsh, with an outdoor deck that greets visitors. The contemporary color palette, dominated by grays and whites, is complemented by Lowcountry elements such as oyster shell walls and warm, stained wood accents on the stairs and deck. The single-story facility includes offices, a training room, conference rooms, a gathering space, and a break room area, all designed to integrate seamlessly with the natural surroundings.
