springfield elementary school - commons building

GBA designed this commons building as part of a campus-style master plan serving Springfield Elementary, Montessori Community School, and the surrounding residential neighborhood. This project completed a three-building campus for the Charleston County School District and was designed to meet LEED Silver Certification standards. The commons building was shared by 750 Springfield Elementary students and 300 Montessori Community School students, providing dedicated spaces for music, art, a media center, computer room, cafeteria, kitchen, and a multi-purpose room with a platform. Designed to enhance collaboration and resource-sharing, this facility created a dynamic learning environment that supported both schools while integrating seamlessly with the 14-acre campus.
