Recognizing the growing demand for a walkable, bike-friendly retail destination, The Beach Company partnered with GBA to revitalize and expand this beloved neighborhood shopping center. The project, completed in two phases, enhances both functionality and aesthetics, creating a vibrant community hub. Phase one introduced an 8,000 SF. expansion, including a 6,000 SF retail outparcel, a new office building in previously underutilized parking space, and the renovation of a 2,000 SF dry-cleaning store. Each retail space was uniquely designed to elevate the shopping experience. Phase two added a 25,000 SF Harris Teeter grocery store and a façade renovation of the remaining 24,000 SF of retail space, carefully integrating materials, colors, and lighting for a cohesive aesthetic. With angled off-street parking, enhanced street lighting, and lush landscaping, the Island Center fosters a seamless interaction between pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. Designed to capture the essence of island life, it invites the community to slow down, gather, and enjoy a thoughtfully crafted shopping experience.
